Success in Clonakilty - July 08

After an absence, the band returned this year to take 2nd place in the intermediate section. It was a great result especially considering the inexperience of the band, and rush we had to get ready in time for it. We also took best trombone section which was great for the lads! Youth Band Instruments - April 08

William's been on eBay again! This time he picked up 3 nearly new Blessing Student cornets and a trombone. These have been bought for the 2008/2009 beginner classes. This is the cheapest time of the year to buy, so by getting them now, rather than just before Christmas when they are needed and dearest, we've saved quite a bit of cash.

National Championships Win - March 08

Held in Limerick this year, the band took 1st place at the IABCB Nationals in it's section, section 3. For many this was their first contest, and we're delighted to have done so well. HFC Band New Ross came 2nd and CJ Kickham Band, Tipperary came 3rd.

New Yamaha Xeno Cornets - Feb 08

Hot on the heals of the Sov cornets, the band purchased two new Yamaha Xeno cornets. The Yamaha Maestro was our main cornet type, but these have now gone out of production. The Band tried and rejected the new Besson Prestige cornets, settling instead for for the gold belled Xeno. Hopefully these will be the first of many more to come, however the equally important need for instruments for the Youth Band is putting pressure on the bank account!

Refurbished Cornets - Feb 08

The Band recently had 3 Boosey & Hawkes Sovreign Cornets refurbished by McQueens in Manchester. Dating from the early 1980's, they are the much sought after round badge models, however, they were showing their age and largely unused by the senior band. They were rebuilt and silver plated to an "as new" condition. They now once again making a valuable contribution to the senior band.
